As the holidays are approaching, I am compelled to offer a few gift ideas 🙂
I had never flown a remote controlled helicopter before. The Esky LAMA comes pre-built and ready to fly out of the box. It’s fun, stable, easy to learn to fly and incredibly cheap at $69!
You can buy it at:

69$…..Button up their sleeve …. and presto ….the chinese pull a rabbit out of their ass. Using realistic cost structures the individual pieces cost 69 bucks in the USA. Someday this has to equalize. In the mean time chase the cats in the neigborhood!!!
Fabrice,
Come on this is a toy, here is a real model helicopter :

You should join a club on LI
Mike: I am not saying this is a serious RC helicopter, but a fun inexpensive starter helicopter.
Before moving to the helicopter you recommend I would recommend people move to a 6 channel helicopter like the Esky Honey Bee King II: http://www.hobby-estore.com/esky-e016-electric-rc-helicopter.html
And this one costs $149…
For a 6 channel heli, you should get a TREX 450, http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=AGNH1100 , its more expensive but you always get what you pay for in this hobby. These honey bee kinds are all knockoffs of the original TREX design. I have personally flown the TREX and 3d’ed it as well so I can say it is an amazing little heli.
Mike: It’s a great heli, but most people I know are better off with an RTF heli than an ARF heli… Any RTF equivalents you would recommend?
Fabrice I would stick with the $69 if you want RTF, problem is that the more advanced heli is bound to crash and if you buy RTF, you will not know how to fix it and so that will be the end of the hobby for you. The ARF is quiet easy to put together or you can also purchase from a place like http://www.rchover.com and pay them to put it together for you.
Here is the next version, the TREX 500 coming out in 3 weeks:

Actually that’s a good point on the ARF vs RTF 🙂
